After waiting a seeming eternity, I finally noticed that my blogs’ page ranks have been updated. I’m grateful, but the increases were not as big as I had expected. Have you been similarly short-changed? Or have you been blessed?

First there was breathless anticipation. Then there was silence. Now there is dire speculation. Has Google given up on PageRank?

For bloggers who monetize their sites, PageRank has been the holy grail, one of the most sought-after numbers in history. I myself have been looking forward to a hefty dollop of PR love from Google for many moons now. According to some predictions, some of my sites were due for an increase to PR 6 or better. I was planning to increase my fee for advertising, and great joy was upon the earth. But now, there is serious talk that makes quite a bit of sense indicating that PR may become nothing more than a memory.

According to CashQuests.com, it would be inconsistent for Google to discourage paid links as they have and still support PR. Say it ain’t so! If this is true, we’d better focus on some other measures of blogging power, like our number of subscribers, and possibly Alexa ranking. Doing so is probably a good idea anyway, simply as a means of diversifying the strengths of our sites. In any case, time will tell what’s going to happen. In the meantime, let’s get back to work, people!
